Sebanyak 32 tim berpartisipasi di putaran keempat ini. Salah satu tim papan atas yang absen adalah Arsenal. Klub London itu sudah disingkirkan Liverpool di putaran ketiga lalu.

Juara bertahan Manchester City sudah memastikan tempat di putaran kelima alias babak 16 besar usai menundukkan Tottenham. Langkah City diikuti Liverpool dan Manchester United.

Dua wakil Premier League, Chelsea dan Nottingham Forest menjadi dua tim terakhir yang memastikan lolos ke putaran kelima.
